Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited George Harrison documentary George Harrison: Living In The Material World will air in two parts on HBO October 5th & 6th, 2011. The film will follow Harrison’s story from his early life in Liverpool, the success of Beatlemania, his travels to India, the influence of Indian culture in his music, and his relevance and importance as a member of The Beatles. It will consist of previously unseen footage and interviews with Olivia and Dhani Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Eric Idle, Phil Spector and Tom Petty.
Scorsese described Material World as “a joy” to make and an experience that he would “never forget”. “George was making spiritually awake music, we all heard and felt it, and I think that was the reason he came to occupy a very special place in our lives,” said the director.
Olivia Harrison will be releasing an accompanying book at the end of September to coincide with the film. The DVD will be released in the UK October 11th.
